Troy University, partnering with Barnes and Noble College, has announced a new program that will make getting course materials easy and affordable for students.
The Trojan Book Bag program allows students to rent their required course materials in a convenient package before their first day of class.
“Our goal is for students who come to school here to have the opportunity to succeed,” stated by Dr. Kerry Palmner, who is the Senior Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs. “We want to keep them in school, we want to see them go all the way through to graduation. It’s difficult to do that if you can’t afford your school supplies. So, the Trojan Book Bag program will help insure that our students have the materials that they need, but I think even more importantly that they have those materials delivered to them before the first day of class.”
Starting with registration for the 2024 fall semester, all required course materials will be included in a $21 per credit hour charge for each course. Students who utilize the program will save an average of 35-50 percent off the retail price of course materials.
“A typical general chemistry book costs $278,” stated by Dr. Jim Bookout, who is the Senior Vice Chancellor for Financial Affairs. “Students will not pay $278, they’ll pay $84 because it’s a 4 hour class. That’s a $198 savings of 70%.”
Troy University is the first public 4-year institution in Alabama and is 1 in over 150 college campuses nationwide to adopt this cost saving option for students.
